Key points
- There is no single best month. Choose by what matters most to you: weather, crowds, budget or Ramzan.
- November to February is the mildest time in Makkah. From May to September it is very hot, often above 40°C.
- Ramzan, above all the last ten nights, and Indian school holidays are the busiest and usually the costliest times.
- As reported, Umrah visas are not issued for some weeks around Hajj. For this season, the last entry date is around 23 March 2027, and pilgrims must leave by around 7 April.
- Elders do best in the cooler months, budget travellers in quieter weeks, and Ramzan travellers by booking early.
The best time for Umrah, in short
The best time for Umrah from India is November to February for mild weather, Ramzan for reward, and quieter weeks away from the holidays for lower prices. No one month is best for everyone. Every part of the year has something good and something hard. The right month for your family depends on what matters most to you.
Here is the quick picture for pilgrims travelling from India:
- Best weather: November to February, when Makkah is milder
- Most reward and most crowded: Ramzan, especially the last ten nights
- Usually lower prices: quieter weeks away from Ramzan and school holidays, including the hot summer months
- Hardest for elders: the peak summer heat and the last ten nights of Ramzan
- Closed for Umrah visas: from late March 2027 until the season reopens after Hajj, as reported
Makkah and Madinah weather through the year
Makkah is mildest from November to February and very hot from May to September, often above 40°C. Weather matters more than most people expect: Umrah means a lot of walking: to the Haram and back several times a day, seven rounds of tawaf and seven trips of sa’i. Heat makes all of this harder, especially for elders.
- November to February: the mildest months. Days are warm and pleasant, and evenings are cooler. Madinah nights can feel cold in December and January, so carry a light jacket or shawl.
- March and April: it gets warmer week by week, and the afternoons can be hot.
- May to September: very hot in Makkah, often above 40°C. Walking in the afternoon is tiring, and a midday rest becomes important.
- October: still hot in the daytime, slowly getting milder towards the end of the month.
The indoor areas of the Haram, the hotels and the buses are air-conditioned, so a light shawl helps even in summer. Outside, carry water and an umbrella.
When Umrah is busiest
Umrah is busiest in Ramzan, above all in the last ten nights, and in the Indian school holidays. Crowds change the whole experience: in a busy week, tawaf takes longer, hotel lifts are full at prayer times, and a place to pray near the Kaaba is hard to find. These are the busy times for pilgrims from India:
- Ramzan, and above all the last ten nights, when the Haram is at its fullest
- Indian school holidays: the Diwali break, the December–January winter holidays and the summer vacation, when families travel with children
- The first weeks after the Umrah season reopens after Hajj, when many people who were waiting travel at once
- Every Friday for Jumu’ah, in any month
Busy dates also fill up first. If you have to travel in the holidays or in Ramzan, book early.
Quieter times to go
The quietest times are ordinary weeks outside Ramzan and the Indian school holidays, and the hot summer months once the rush after Hajj settles. If you want more space in the Haram and a calmer tawaf, look for those weeks. Ordinary working weeks in October and November, away from the Diwali break, are often calmer than the year-end holidays and Ramzan.
Once the rush after Hajj settles, the hot summer months are usually the quietest of all. Fewer families travel in the heat, so it is easier to move around the Haram. This time suits fit, younger travellers who rest in the afternoon and go to the Haram early in the morning and at night.
Month by month: the 2026–27 season
This is how the coming months look for a pilgrim leaving from India. Islamic dates come about 11 days earlier each year, so Ramzan and Hajj will fall in different months in the years ahead.
- 1
Step 1
October 2026
Still hot in the daytime, getting milder by the end of the month. Usually calmer than the peak months. A good choice for a first Umrah if you can manage some heat: go to the Haram early in the morning and at night.
- 2
Step 2
November 2026
The milder weather begins. Families travelling in the Diwali break make those weeks busier. The other weeks are among the most comfortable times of the year to go.
- 3
Step 3
December 2026 and January 2027
The mildest weather of the year, with cold nights in Madinah. Winter holidays and year-end leave make this a busy time with high demand. Book early, and pack warm layers for elders.
- 4
Step 4
Ramzan: about 8 February to 9 March 2027
These are expected dates, subject to the sighting of the moon. The weather is mild and the reward of Umrah in Ramzan is great, but this is the busiest and usually the costliest time, above all in the last ten nights. Seats, flights and hotels near the Haram fill quickly, so book as early as you can, ideally by December.
- 5
Step 5
Late March to Hajj 2027
As reported, the last date for Umrah visa issue is around 9 March 2027, the last date to enter Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa is around 23 March 2027, and pilgrims must leave by around 7 April 2027. Umrah visas are not issued in the Hajj period. The Day of Arafah in 2027 is expected around 15 May, subject to the sighting of the moon.
- 6
Step 6
After Hajj 2027
The new Umrah season is expected to open after Hajj; the date is announced each year. By then it is summer and very hot, often above 40°C. The first weeks can be busy as people who waited travel together.
- 7
Step 7
July to September 2027
The peak of the heat. The Haram is usually less crowded and prices are often lower. This suits fit travellers who can rest through the afternoon. It is not an easy time for elders.
Visa dates are as reported in October 2026 and can change. Check the current dates with us before you fix your plan.
How Umrah prices change through the year
Umrah prices follow demand. When many people want to travel at the same time, flight fares and hotel rates near the Haram go up, and package prices go up with them. When fewer people travel, prices usually come down.
So Ramzan, especially the last ten nights, and the school holiday weeks usually cost the most. Quieter weeks, including the hot summer months, usually cost less. The cheapest month for Umrah shifts a little each year, because Ramzan and Hajj move and airlines set fares by demand.
Our current rates are ₹89,999 per person for 15 days and ₹99,999 per person for 20 days, on 5-bed average sharing, with GST and TCS extra as applicable. Seasonal rates differ, and our team confirms the price for your exact dates before you book.
Booking early helps most for busy dates, because seats on each weekly departure are limited.
Which time suits your family?
- Elderly parents: choose the cooler months, November to February, and if you can, the 20-day package for an easier pace. Avoid the summer heat. If they want to go in Ramzan, choose a calmer part of the month rather than the last ten nights.
- A tight budget: travel in quieter weeks, away from Ramzan and school holidays. If you can handle the heat, the summer months are often the best value. The 15-day package keeps both the cost and the leave lower.
- Ramzan and the spiritual reward: plan for Ramzan, book early, and choose between the whole month, the last ten nights or a shorter stay.
- Families with school-going children: the holidays are often the only option. Book early and expect busier days.
- A first Umrah: a mild, calmer month gives you time to learn and perform the rites without rushing.
- Limited leave: a 15-day package in a quieter week.
